Preventative Measures

Keep your home or business pest-free.

Pest control works best with prevention.

The best way to safeguard against the return of pests after treatment is to follow our recommended Integrated Pest Management methods. These are based on the EPA’s seven suggested procedures to ensure your home or office remain pest-free after treatment. Your technician will review these methods with you and provide a pamphlet for your review and reference.

  1. Remove sources of food, water, and shelter.
  2. Store food in sealed plastic or glass containers. Place all garbage containing food scraps in tightly covered trash cans. Remove waste regularly from your home.
  3. Fix leaky plumbing and don't let water accumulate anywhere in the home. Don't allow water to collect in trays under your house plants or refrigerator. Don't leave pet food and water out overnight.
  4. Clutter provides places for pests to breed and hide and makes it hard to get rid of them. Get rid of things like stacks of newspapers, magazines, or cardboard.
  5. Close off places where pests can enter and hide. For example, caulk cracks and crevices around cabinets or baseboards. Use steel wool to fill spaces around pipes. Cover any holes with wire mesh.
  6. Learn about the specific pests you have and options to control them.
  7. Check for pests in packages or boxes before carrying them into your home.
